General Information About the University of Parma

The University of Parma is one of the oldest universities in Europe, founded in Parma on 13 March 962 by Emperor Ottonian. The university was closed and reopened during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this process, an astronomical observatory, botanical garden, and physics and chemistry laboratories were added to its structure, and it was reopened in a more advanced way during each change process. The institution has been continuing its active education process since 1854. The university, which currently has approximately 30,000 students, 1800 academic staff and 9 main departments, produces approximately 5,000 graduates each year.

Every year, hundreds of international students start their education at the University of Parma. There is also an education program called “Foundation Course” at the University of Parma, which provides education in the fields of undergraduate, graduate and doctorate. Parma Üniversitesi bölümleri

The University of Parma’s foundation course is a program that usually lasts 10 months and prepares students to meet the minimum requirements demanded by the Italian higher education system. It is especially preferred by students who have not reached language proficiency at B2 level or have not completed 12 years of education. Students participating in the Foundation Course program will have a document proving their English or Italian language proficiency at the end of the program, and with this document, they can apply to the Italian or English department of their choice in Italy.

The Foundation Course also aims to develop educational and cultural competencies in an academic context in Italy, regardless of the student’s length of study. For this reason, it is preferred by students who have completed 12 years of education.

What are the Admission Requirements?

Students who want to enroll in the Foundation course program:

  • Must have received at least 11 years of education until high school graduation.
  • It is required that the diploma received in the country where the high school graduation took place and the transcript containing the course content must be equivalent to be given by the Italian Consulate, and the Italian translations of these documents must be found.

Course Contents

There are two separate program contents in the foundation course program at Parma University. Students must choose one of these programs.

There is a total of 60 credits in both programs. The common core courses of both departments are Italian or English language, Italian culture, intercultural communication and preparation for the exam to obtain an Italian or English language certificate.

In addition to these courses in the general study program, besides the Italian history and geography course, there are also course options offered by the university academically. This option aims to increase students’ awareness of the Italian university system and help them choose the most suitable degree course.

Parma University offers four different courses in the field of music in its music study program, and students are asked to choose three of these options. Before choosing from these options, which consist of choir practice, ear work, music history, harmony and analysis, the instructors will examine the student’s competencies for guidance.

University of Parma Tuition Fees

Tuition fees at the University of Parma are determined according to the family income statement, like in other public schools in Italy. Students whose annual family income is below the determined level pay the lowest level of tuition fees determined between 156 € and 3500 € per year.

The fee for the foundation course program at the University of Parma is not determined according to family income. Students who want to participate in the program pay a tuition fee of 3200€-4000€ depending on the program they choose.

Part-time Study for Students

Students who enroll regularly can apply for study activities in administrative offices, libraries and other university structures. Activities last a maximum of 150 hours. Students are paid an hourly rate determined by the Board of Directors each year.

Parma University does not have any accommodation facilities offered by the university. However, the university helps its students to find accommodation.
