General Information About the University of Ferrara

University of Ferrara was founded in 1391 by Pope Alberto (V) d’Este. It is an Italian public university, one of the oldest in the world, founded courtesy of Bonifacius. In the 15th and 16th centuries, it became one of the most glorious pioneers of the city and Italian Renaissance culture. In these centuries, which were the golden age of the city and the university, the Astronomer Copernicus and Doctor Paracelsus (one of the founders of modern medicine) also worked at the University of Ferrara.

Research Activities and Collaborations

Ferrara University has been conducting research and experiments in collaboration with Chinese universities in Guangdong, China’s most industrial region, with faculties in economics, architecture, medicine, law and engineering.

While there are active collaborations between Ferrara faculty of economics and South China University of Technology; A research project on Guangdong industry allowed the Ferrara medical school to open a permanent office at the Capital University of Medical Sciences in Beijing in 2006.

Other joint projects include the restoration of the central part of the historic city of Jerusalem and pylon reliefs on behalf of UNESCO, thanks to an agreement with the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design and the Palestinian University Al-Qud in Jerusalem. This includes an analysis of the Temple of Luxor and the temple of Montezuma in Mexico City square. UniFE is also involved in important archaeological excavations in areas scattered around the world.
